European Union
This design (blue band on the left with the country's international oval abbreviation code below the 12 stars of the European flag) started in the European Union and was adopted by most EU members.
In some countries, however, the EU Band is optional, for example the United Kingdom.
The standard size of one-line plates is 520 x 110 mm as shown above. It is 340 x 220 mm on two-line plates.
The Euro-band design has also been adopted by several European countries that are not members of the EU. Some may join in the future, for example Bosnia and Serbia.
Even some countries that are not located in Europe have adopted a euro-style design. Instead of the "euro-stars", a national or state flag, state emblem or nothing at all may be displayed in the blue band along with the country abbreaviation (but not always) as shown in the examples above.
