One line 520 x 110 mm or two lines 340 x 220 mm
- Most EU member nations have a 40 mm wide blue band on the left with
twelve gold stars in a circle and the country's international oval
abbreviation below it (so-called "euroband")
- In the United Kingdom and Belgium, the "euroband" is optional
- In the United Kingdom, France and Spain regional flags are often affixed
in lieu of the European stars
- Belgium, Finland and Greece have plates in a different (smaller) size

Some countries that are not part of the EU (or even Europe) are adopting
EU-style plate designs which may display their nation's flag or coat-of-arms
and/or country abbreviation with or without the blue band.
